The PWU Vocal Ensemble was guest performer at the symposium entitled “The Sacred and the Secular in Music” held on June 2-3, 2016 hosted by Fu Jen Catholic University Music Department. Led by its music director & conductor, Prof. Christopher Borela, the ensemble performed an impressive one-hour repertoire of sacred music featuring classic works by well-known composers such as Bruckner, Rutter, and Mallote to folk-inspired pieces like Kyrie from “Missa Criolla” by Ramirez and “Mary’s Salidummay” by Kiley & Zulu’s “Thula Sizwe” and “Siyahamba.”
Members of the PWU Ensemble who joined the Taipei concert are sopranos Eunice Custado, Maritoni Ocampo, and Leslie Anne Abordo; altos Elietess Haidee Mayor Cariño, Myra Yvonne Bartolome and Aubrey Marie Buenvenida; tenors Mikko Jay Peña and Edrian Yuske Sta. Ana; and basses Jherome Lanting and Marvin Soliven. The PWU Vocal Ensemble is one of the School of Music performing groups organized for students and faculty alike to experience and promote vocal chamber singing in madrigal style.
