PWU, NCWP honor Benitez on June 4

The 128th birth anniversary of noted educator and civic leader Francisca Tirona Benitez will be observed by the country on June 4, 2014 which was declared National Council of the Women of the Philippines (NCWP) Day as contained in Presidential Proclamation no. 760.

Founded in 1947 by Benitez, the NCWP is recognized for its “contribution to nation-building, civic well-being and women’s empowerment.”

The celebration will be led by NCWP President Leonida “Baby” Ortiz and the founder’s lone daughter Dr. Helena Z Benitez, chairperson of the Philippine Women’s University which the late Benitez was one of the key founders of the school.

A thanksgiving mass will be held at the NCWP headquarters at Airport Road, Pasay City and at the PWU chapel, Taft campus, Manila to be led by PWU President and grand nephew Dr. Francisco Benitez.
