The Philippine Women’s University and the Embassy of Israel mounted a live video chat with Margot Cassel Pins Kestenbaum (solo photo), a Jewish alumna who survived the holocaust through the Open Door Policy of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon in 1938. Now 83 years old, Mrs. Kestenbaum, one of the 1,300 Jews who sought refuge in the country, completed her 3rd to 7th grades at PWU and recalled her fond memories in school. In photo after the teleconference attended by the PWU community, Israeli Embassy officials and staff, alumni and guests are Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Effie Ben Matityau (second from right) and to his left is PWU Pres. Dr. Francisco Benitez, with from left: Adam Michael Levene, deputy chief of mission and VP for External Affairs Alfredo Reyes.
