Highlight of the 96th Foundation Month Celebration of the Philippine Women’s University is the President’s Convocation where Dr. Francisco Benitez delivers his state of the University address on February 9, 2015 (Monday), 10:00 am at the Conrado Benitez Hall, Taft campus, Manila.
Special guest is Margot Cassel Pins, 84, a Jewish refugee who studied in PWU from 1940-1944, having survived the holocaust through the open door policy then of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon in 1938.
Musical numbers will be provided by the JASMS Rondalla, baritone Marvin Gayramon and the vocal Ensemble of the School of Music, with Suzie Benitez as master of ceremonies.
On February 20, the school honors its top faculty, administrators personnel and students. This year’s service awardees are led by Aida Berroya and Thelma Saludares (40 years), Fe Fedelis (35 years), Marivic Tirona and Imelda Bulos (30 years).
On-going up to its finals on Feb. 27 is Pasiklaban, the first Inter High School National Skills Competition to be held at Concert Hall. The contest participated in by some 70 school, covers quiz bee, dance and sports challenges, arts and design, culinary arts and information technology.
Community engagements will be conducted by the School of Medical Technology, Student Affairs and the School of Tourism which will likewise hold a symposium in “Latest Trends in Tourism” and booth exhibits.
At the JASMS-Quezon City campus, the activities lined up are Science Week, SPED and Teachers Day and Music hour on Feb. 13 and Sports Festival on Feb. 20-21. While in JASMS-Manila, the activities include a mini fair, student’s and Teacher’s Day on Feb.13 and observance of Jose Abad Santos Day on Feb. 18, the first board chairman of PWU.
Last Feb. 4 and 6, the School of Hospitality Management conducted seminars on “Teaching Strategy” and on “Data Gathering and Food Ways.”
Musical interludes are being presented by the School of Music, namely: Eraserhead Unplugged on Feb. 10, concert on Filipino Works and Kundiman on Feb. 12, Finals of Guitar competition on Feb. 26. The Beethoven class and lecture by Brandon Russel is set on Feb. 10.
An international students food festival is being organized by the Int’l Student Organization, Student Affairs and Student Council on Feb. 13.
Activities of the School of Fine Arts and Design include film showing on Edades with Panday Aviado as lecturer on Feb. 18, faculty exhibition at the Gallery on Feb 16-21 and MAFAD open studio on Feb. 21.
The School of Arts and Sciences opens its program on Feb, 23 with a mass, opening of Mangyan exhibit, film showing and sports festival. Similarly slated are theater play, seminars and a concert.
On Feb. 23, the PWU Alumni Association will hold its first golf tournament at Ayala Greenfields Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba, Laguna. Capping the celebration is the alumni homecoming on Feb. 28, 2:00 pm at the Le Pavillion, Metro Park, Roxas blvd., Pasay City.
