PWU hosts Spain-Philippine Conference

The Philippine Women’s University and the Embassy of Spain in Manila will host an international conference on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 8:30am at PWU’s Taft Avenue campus.

Keynote speakers are Dr. Ambeth Ocampo (of Ateneo de Manila) and Dr. David Javier Garcia Cantalapiedra (of Universidad Complutense de Madrid) who will re-imagine bilateral relations between Spain and the Philippines. Spanish Ambassador Luis Antonio Calvo and Dr. Jose Francisco Benitez (PWU President) will open the conference which brings together an interdisciplinary group of academics and specialists including Dr. Jose Diaz Rodriguez of Massey University, New Zealand who will talk about Intercultural Encounters; Dr. Declan Fitzpatrick of Liverpool Hope University, UK on “Cariñosa to Tinikling: From Colonial Subject to Independence” and Dr. Danilo Madrid Gerona of Santa Isabel University who will describe daily life at sea aboard the Magellan ship. Conference convenor Dr. Kevin H.R. Villanueva describes the conference as a way of examining the “special ties” that bind the two countries.

How is globalization changing the way we think of our shared history?
