PWU President Jose Francisco B. Benitez will receive the “Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education” at the 8th Asia’s Education Excellence Awards to be held in Singapore on August 2, 2017. The Awards are presented by World Education Congress, CMO Asia with CMO Council as its Strategic Partner and Stars of the Industry Group as research partner. Andrew Kelly of CMO Asia recently informed Dr. Benitez of the award which is given to individuals who can make a difference in the lives of others, for the quality of their work, outlook, reach and ability to contribute to social change.

Asia’s Education Excellence Awards are given after an intensely researched process that draws the winner from a shortlist of individuals who are doing extraordinary work in education. This year’s Jury members include: Dr. Arun Arora (former president and CEO of The Economic Times, India’s leading business newspaper), Dr. Harish Mehta (founding member of NASSCOM, an association of software and services companies in India), Nina E. Woodard an American HR consultant and Andrew Kelly chief patron of CMO Asia (a global network of top marketing decision makers).

Dr. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez is the ninth president of the Philippine Women“s University which was founded by his great-grandparents in 1919. He is the fourth generation of his family to serve the iconic educational institution. Dr. Benitez is a scholar of literature by training. He graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University and received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He recently led PWU and JASMS (its basic education arm) out of a turbulent period that saw a highly publicized split from erstwhile partner STI, a technology school behemoth.

Dr. Benitez’s goal is to restore the protocols of an inquiry-based humanities and liberal arts education at PWU and JASMS. He remains true to the founders’ vision of cultivating civic engagement and holistic life-long learning. At a recent gathering of PWU alumni, he called on the stakeholders to “together build the scaffolding for another hundred years.”

The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education will be given to Dr. Francisco Benitez at the 8th Asia’s Education Excellence Awards to be held at Le Meridien Sentosa in Singapore on August 2, 2017.
