Teacher training is integral to The JASMS Way. The most recent Professional Teacher Training Program of the Jose Abad Santos Memorial School (JASMS) was held on August 14, 2017, Monday at the Taft campus of PWU. Facilitating the workshop was Ma. Carolina G. de Ocampo, Education Consultant of Potencia, Inc. and faculty member at De La Salle University-Manila’s College of Education. According to her, the end goal of the teacher training program was to “unleash, empower and lead a culture of creativity that will prepare the teachers to align themselves with the needs of the 21st century student.”
As such, the whole-day workshop, which expounded on topics such as The Effective 21st Century Teacher, The Habits of Mind, The 16 Thinking Skills for the 21st Century, Design Thinking for Educators, Classroom Habitudes, and Character for the 21st Century Learner, commenced with a storytelling portion before segueing into the first lecture entitled “You, Me and Us.” Her next two lectures, “The Habits of Mind and The Classroom Habitudes” and “Are You A Teacher Leader or Teacher Hero?” were punctuated by group presentations of the teachers.
The attendees also participated in an open forum as well as The Golden Circle Activity by Simon Sinek. The training concluded with a Vision/Goal Setting for the 2017–2018 school year, which will be a historic milestone in the school’s history as JASMS moves to its new campus on Congressional Avenue in QC.
