The American Studies Association of the Philippines (ASAP) is holding its annual academic conference at the Taft Avenue campus of the Philippine Women’s University from 8:00am to 1:30pm on Saturday, October 21, 2017. “Re-imagining America in an Age of Globalization” is the topic for this year’s conference which aims to explore how Americans and Filipinos are making sense of the real, and at times surreal, changes in the globalized era of the 21st century, seeking to answer questions on the genesis of such changes, their political implications, the contradictions that they reveal about American culture and how have these impacted on the Philippines and other countries in the ASEAN. PWU President Dr. Francisco Benitez will speak on the relation of globalization to the domain of culture and the arts. Breakaway sessions will feature papers on areas such as new digital realities and the impact of globalization on the humanities, social sciences, and business.
