PWU PSSW Hosts the Theater Advocacy Tour of Bahay Tuluyan, NAKPHIL, and PETA

Posted: June 19, 2018

Last June 9, 2018, The Philippine School of Social Work (PSSW) in collaboration with Bahay Tuluyan, Pinag-isang Lakas ng Kabataan (PILAK), Network Against Killings Philippines (NAKPHIL) and PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association) staged a play entitled “Happy Land” as part of the theater advocacy tour “Promoting Children and Human Rights in the Context of the Philippine War-on-Drugs Policy”.

The play, performed by PILAK, the youth advocacy group of Bahay Tuluyan, was a brilliant satire on the government’s war on drugs. The activity started with a situationer on the government’s implementation of the drug war policy. The performers ended the play with a poignant call to stop the killings and uphold human rights, especially those of the children. Following the performance, a short open forum was facilitated where students were given the opportunity to ask questions relevant to the issue. A message of response and support for the issue was delivered by Ms. Patricia delos Reyes, 2nd Yr. BSSW student and President of Junior Social Work Philippines (JSWAP-PWU), and Ms. Maricel Condino, Field Instruction Coordinator of PSSW. A total of fifty-one (51) students attended the performance, composed of BSSW students from PSSW, student leaders of Communication Arts Society, Teatro Katipunero, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy.
