1700 runners join the PWU RunHUNDRED 2019

Posted: March 4, 2019

RunHUNDRED 2019, a fun run organized by the Philippine Women’s University Alumni Association, attracted 1700 runners who all came to celebrate PWU’s 100th year. Participants of all ages, ranging from 7 to 92 years old, converged at the SM By the Bay North Fountain in Pasay at 4am of Saturday, February 2, for four race events: 500M, 3k, 5k, and 10k. Several PWU Alumni ran/walked the 500M event wearing the traditional PWU gala terno in support of the fun run theme, “Celebrate Our Past While Running Towards Our Future.”

The top 3 runners from each event, 24 runners in total, received commemorative PWU Centennial plaques and special prizes from the event sponsors. The runners with the best time for the 500m category were Shaira Mae Fantillaga (Women’s Division) and Carlito Fantillaga (Men’s Division). The 3K top placers were JASMS student Anthea Arboleda (Women’s Division) and C-Jay Maestro (Men’s Division). Top runners for the 5k category were Elaine Yabut (Women’s Division) and Lai Tsun Yava (Men’s Division), and the 10k event champions were Rocelle Maestro (Women’s Division) and Marvin Edres (Men’s Division). Mr. Beng Pangan, President of Air21, presented the awards for the top placers of the 10k event. All the runners who made it to the finish line were awarded loot bags and finisher medals.

In addition, special raffle prizes provided by Slimmer’s World, Mogu Mogu, and Milcu were given away. Two grand raffle prizes courtesy of Philippine Airlines, the official carrier of the PWU Centennial, were also up for grabs. Shiela A. Lagado, a JASMS parent, won a roundtrip PAL ticket to a local destination of choice, while lucky PWU alumna Normita Mabaquiao (BS Accounting) received a roundtrip PAL ticket to London.

The impressive turnout and enthusiastic display of community support made for a very festive atmosphere. Special acknowledgement goes to all the corporate partners: major sponsors Philippine Airlines and Air 21; media partners ABS-CBN and DZMM Teleradyo; Garmin, the official timer; Rundezvous, race organizer; Maynilad; Integrated Waste Management Inc., StageCraft International; Vizcarra Pharmaceutical; Maya; Scheele Laboratories Philippines, Inc.; Slimmer’s World; Mega Fiber; Australia Harvest Oatmeal; Vitaminboost; Suncoast Lightwater; Black Mamba Energy Drink; Mogu Mogu; Ideal Macaroni; Bambike; ChloRelief; Milcu; Lubie; Sysu International Inc.; The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf; Clara Ole; Smuckers; Takbo.ph; Pinoy Fitness; and Yakult.

This event is one of many activities lined up to mark the PWU Centennial Year. Proceeds from all the Centennial events will go toward enhancing PWU’s educational initiatives and upgrading existing school facilities.
