The PWU Wellness Hub

Office of the President Memo #026 – SY 2019-2020
October 1, 2019

The Institute of Family Life & Children Studies is now ready to welcome students and employees in need of social and emotional support.

Located within the IFLCS’ office at the Ground Floor Level, the PWU Wellness Hub is a venue where one can find space to develop a more positive attitude and a sense of well being.

The Wellness Hub has been developed for students and employees who may need an alternative support system. Anyone can drop by and participate in scheduled activities, with prior clearance/approval from deans/heads of offices. (Please see attached list of weekly activities).

I enjoin everyone in the PWU Community to help create a safe, supportive and respectful learning environment, continuously promoting employee and student well-being in our campuses.

  1. Tuesdays – Introduce Wellness Challenges

This is a once-a-week wellness challenge to all. Participants will be taught a fun way to help improve well-being and performance, to include:

    • eight-glasses-of-water-a-day challenge
    • 7-hours-of-sleep-per-night challenge
    • smoking cessation challenge
    • financial wellness
    • home cooked meals challenge rather than eating out to improve dietary health, and save money as well
  2. Wednesdays – Meditation Breaks/Mindfulness/Physical Fitness/Health and Well-being Activities

Stress management is an important part of any wellness program. Taking a ten-minute break for meditation and a “no-talk times” during the day can help de-stress and refocuses energies for improved health. Sharing follows.

Other fitness, health and well-being activities will be introduced.

  3. Thursdays – Tuina Therapy Sessions (1st and 4th Thursdays of the month)

Tuina massage can be used to maintain good health. The technique is effective in reducing stress, encouraging relaxation, and deepening sleep. The underlying philosophy of tuina massage is that true health is achieved when one has found harmony and balance inside the self and their environment.

The greatest advantage of tuina is that it focuses on maintaining overall balance with both physical and mental health. Tuina massage therapy is now becoming a more common therapy method due to its focus on specific problems rather than providing a general treatment.

A Tuina Therapist will be invited to provide tuina massage 2x a month, and conduct trainings to interested participants to encourage employees and students to become Tuina Therapists.
