This coming Friday, August 28, three organizations will come together in partnership for a landmark activity, BAWAL ANG BASTOS – A Forum on R.A. 11313, better known as the Safe Spaces Act of 2019.
The National Council of Women of the Philippines (NCWP), the Young Women’s Christian Association of the Philippines (YWCA) together with The Philippine Women’s University, have joined forces to bring to light many issues and concerns on women relevant to the times.
The two organizations, the NCWP and YWCA boast of a roster of esteemed and highly-respected women leaders, among them, Francisca Tirona Benitez, founding president of the Civic Assembly of Women of the Philippines (CAWP) in 1964 which eventually became the National Council of Women of the Philippines (NCWP). Mrs. Benitez is also one of the seven women founders of the Philippine Women’s University.
Atty. Clara Rita A. Padilla, Founder and Executive Director of EnGenderRights, a legal non-governmental organization, will speak on Understanding R.A. 11313; Dr. Sylvia Estrada-Claudio, Dean of the College of Social Work and Community Development of the University of the Philippines will address the matter of Understanding the Culture of Violence Perception on Women, and Commissioner Sandra Sanchez- Montano, Chairperson of the Commission of Women, the primary policy-making and coordinating body on women empowerment and gender equality, will discuss The Role of Women Civil Society Groups in Ensuring a Safe and Secure Spaces for Women and Girls.
