Looking Ahead to SY 2021-2022
Office of the President Memo #047 SY 2020-2021 – June 1, 2021
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to
the PWU Community for staying true to our mission despite the
challenges posed by the pandemic. The resiliency, perseverance, and
openness to change which our students, faculty and non-teaching
personnel have all displayed are truly commendable.
Now more than a year into this pandemic, as the government rolls
out its mass vaccination program, slowly we are seeing some light at
the end of the proverbial tunnel. However, given the pace of the
vaccination program, and in order to minimize the risks for the
community, the University shall implement the following policies for
Depending on the quarantine classification announced by the IATF,
the University shall still maintain our four-phase transition plan
set in place last year (OP Memo 091 SY 2019-20). The corresponding
phase shall be announced in line with the government’s
announcement of the quarantine classification.
- Phase 1: Critical Support Services –
tasked to ensure security, maintenance and repairs, and
reorientation of facilities in accordance with safety and health
protocols of the government. Currently ongoing under MECQ.
- Phase 2: Skeletal Workforce – key
employees in certain departments necessary for student services
such as Registrar, Finance/Accounting, Human Resource,
Administration, etc. May begin under General Community Quarantine (GCQ)
- Phase 3: Flexible Work Arrangement and Must-Have-On-Campus
Classes – Offices working at reduced capacity to
maintain social distancing. Only necessary face-to-face laboratory
and skills-based classes may be allowed on campus in smaller groups
to maintain social distancing and observe health protocols. All
lecture classes shall still be held online.
- Phase 4: The New Normal – Flexible work
arrangement shall be observed for all offices, while face-to-face
laboratory and lecture classes may be conducted on-campus following
a flexible and blended modality.
Ending School Year 2020-2021
- Due to Government protocols on mass gatherings, the Baccalaureate
Mass and Commencement Ceremony for batch 2020 and 2021 shall be
held virtually on July 23 and July 24, 2021, respectively. The
organizing committees shall release announcements containing the
details of said events in the coming weeks.

Mode of Learning for School Year 2021-2022
- Conscious of the health risks this pandemic continues to pose
and keeping in mind the guidelines imposed by the government on
health and safety protocols, the University shall maintain the
flexible mode of teaching and learning for SY 2021-2022.
This means a combination of Home-based Online Learning, moving
towards Blended Learning.
- The 1st Trimester of SY 2020-2021 shall be from
August 2, 2021 until October 30, 2021 and shall
be primarily done via Home-based Online Learning.
- For certain courses, particularly in the Allied Health cluster,
the University will be applying for limited face-to-face classes
in compliance with CHED-DOH JMC No. 2021-001. Should the University
obtain approval to conduct limited face-to-face classes, the
students of these courses shall be informed in advance in a
subsequent memorandum from the Office of the SVPAA.
- Regardless of the health situation and the level of community
quarantine, our Academic Units are preparing guidelines and
standards that will allow students to maximize their learning
objectives utilizing these flexible modes of learning.
Admissions and Enrollment
- Applications for admissions for incoming Freshmen and transferee
students shall also be available online through www.pwu.edu.ph
by June 1, 2021.
- For school year 2021-2022, the Entrance Exam Fee shall still be
waived for incoming Freshmen and transferees. These students shall
also be allowed to take the exam anytime during their first year
in the University as scheduled with the Guidance Counselling and
- Online Enrollment for all other students for 1st
Trimester SY 2021-2022 shall begin by July 5, 2021
through the University’s student portal, which may be
accessed through www.pwu.edu.ph.
- Since we will maintain a flexible mode of teaching and learning
for SY 2021-2022, and conscious of the financial impact of the
pandemic on the families of our students, the University will
still be applying discounts on Miscellaneous and Other School Fees
for SY 2021-2022. Approximately Twenty-Five (25%) percent of
Miscellaneous and Other School Fees will appear as “Heal as
One Discount” on the assessment portion in your student portal.
- Moreover, installment charges shall continue to be discounted at
fifty (50%) percent of the original amount.
Academic Support Program
- Prior to the start of next school year, we will once again
conduct an online orientation for both parents and students to
discuss the policies, guidelines, expectations and requirements
for the year, as well as answer any concerns related to how classes
will be conducted in this new format.
- The challenges posed by this pandemic have definitely taken a
toll on the emotional and mental well-being of our community; some
more than others. Our Institute of Family Life and Children Studies
together with the Guidance Counselling and Testing Offices continue
to give psychosocial and counseling support to the PWU Community
through The PWU Wellness Hub. Students are free to reach out for
any reason to the counselor assigned to their respective program.
Employees and other members of the community may call (0939)

In continuing solidarity with our country’s efforts to rise
from this pandemic, the University’s
#WeRiseAsOneScholarship shall be extended for
SY 2021-2022. This scholarship is open to all incoming freshmen and
transferee students, particularly those that have been economically
affected by this pandemic, entering this school year 2020-2021.
The scholarship shall provide a full tuition subsidy for students
throughout their entire undergraduate stay at PWU1. Slots
will be available across all programs offered by the University on a
first come, first serve basis. Please visit
or email email@example.com
for more information.
Once again, I would like to thank the PWU community –
administrators, faculty, employees and support units – for your
passion, dedication and hard work in making the past year a success
despite the pandemic. Working together, we have brought out the best
of the PWU community and have remained true to our mission to deliver
the standard of education expected of us. I would also like to thank
our students, parents, and alumni for their continued trust and
prayers for the institution.
Finally, I urge everyone to avail of the government’s
vaccination program as soon as they are eligible. In the next few
days, priority group A4 shall be allowed to receive their jabs, and
all PWU faculty and employees may fall under this category.
Regardless of your place of residence, you may register at
and use our Taft Ave. Campus as your work address. All vaccines
approved by our FDA are safe and effective, that is why the best
vaccine is still the one that is already available. With God’s
grace, the sooner we are all inoculated, the sooner we would be able
to safely return to some form of normalcy. As the experts have said
over and over again, we are only safe when everyone is safe.
May you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy.
Marco Alfredo M. Benitez
