About the Centennial

The Philippine Women’s University was founded in 1919 to prepare young Filipina women for a life of productive and participative citizenship. During a period in Philippine history when national independence was yet to be realized, these enlightened women were emboldened by a vision of a future that gave due recognition to the essential role of women in nation-building. Today’s PWU remains true to the vision of its founding mothers while evolving into a modern institution prepared to meet the opportunities and challenges of the next hundred years. Join us as we celebrate one hundred years of quality education in the service of the nation.
