Our story

Our recent outreach art workshop at Jade Home Dasmariñas, was a heartwarming initiative that used the power of art to connect with individuals with special needs.
This home provides a nurturing environment for those who face challenges in verbal communication, and the workshop aimed to offer an alternative, creative way for them to
express their feelings and thoughts. By focusing on non-verbal activities like drawing and painting, we sought to give participants a voice through art—a language that transcends words.

The activities were designed to foster self-expression and meaningful communication. Participants were guided by the house parents, or caregivers, allowing them to engage
in shared moments of creativity and connection. The artworks created served as a tangible record of the participants’ emotions, thoughts, and unique worldviews.
These pieces weren’t just art—they became personal narratives, filled with insights into how these individuals perceive and interact with the world around them.

Each participant produced a collection of works that reflected their inner experiences,

making the workshop not only a moment of creative freedom but also a process of emotional expression. The act of creating art allowed participants to communicate feelings that might otherwise be difficult to
express, providing them with a new, non-verbal medium through which to share their stories.

Throughout the workshop, the emotional well-being of the participants was a top priority. PWU art workshop facilitators, caseworkers, along with Virlanie house parents,
were on hand to ensure that each participant felt supported, safe, and understood. Their attentive care helped create a warm and trusting environment where participants
could engage fully in the creative process, knowing that their emotions were being attended to with compassion and understanding.

The workshop highlighted the power of art as a bridge for communication, especially for those who struggle with verbal expression. It was a moving experience that
reinforced the value of creativity in fostering emotional connection and self-expression for individuals with special needs.

Testimonial

“Gustong gusto ng mga bata mag art activity kahit medyo hindi gaano alam ang ginagawa. Inalalayan sila ng mga nagpa activity, masaya ang mga bata namin at kami
bilang staff ay nagtaka dahil kinaya ng mga bata ang haba ng activity, siguro dahil natuwa sila. Well behave din at nakipag cooperate ang mga bata”

(The children enjoyed the art activities, even without prior experience. They were happy, engaged, and to our surprise, managed the entire session well, likely because
they were having fun. Their behavior and cooperation were excellent throughout..)
