Our story
Our recent outreach art workshop for the survivors of the January 2024 landslide and flood in Davao City was an initiative aimed at fostering healing and resilience among the displaced children of Brgy. Tigatto. Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being in post-disaster recovery, the workshop was designed as a capacity-building activity that combined education and entertainment, or “edutainment,” to provide much-needed relief and support. Through creative expression, we aimed to help these children process their experiences and begin the journey toward healing.
The focus of the workshop was on engaging children in activities that encouraged positive coping and problem-solving skills. By creating a supportive and nurturing environment, we helped strengthen their friendships and peer relationships, which are essential for building resilience in the face of adversity. Working together in small groups, the children were encouraged to support one another and share their stories in a safe, accepting space.
Throughout the workshop, the children participated in activities such as color mixing and collaborative painting. These activities allowed them to reflect on their experiences, express their emotions, and develop a more positive outlook on life. Each creative project represented the children’s adaptability and their ability to find hope and resilience even in difficult times.
The children’s collaborative projects were powerful expressions of their strength and capacity to cope with hardship. By working together, they not only developed important coping skills but also fostered a sense of community and solidarity among their peers.
This workshop was a testament to the power of creativity and peer support in promoting emotional healing. It highlighted the importance of providing disaster-stricken communities with opportunities to express themselves, connect with others, and develop the resilience needed to move forward.
